MecaLab

An innovation laboratory at the heart of Mecaware's development strategy

Project purpose

The MecaLab project aims to provide Mecaware with its own R&D capabilities by setting up an in-house laboratory and recruiting qualified technical teams. This innovation center will allow the breakthrough technologies developed by the company to mature, with the aim of bringing them to market on a large scale.

The MecaLab is a development center for Mecaware's core competencies, meeting R&D needs in several complementary areas. The laboratory brings together synthesis, analysis, separative techniques and electrochemistry, providing all the tools needed to :

  • Accelerate R&D on battery material recycling, for internal and collaborative projects.
  • Provide internal support for scaling up technologies through the creation of demonstrators and pilots.
  • Broadening the scope of intervention in the battery value chain, with a broader vision towards new sectors.
  • The completion of this project marks the creation of a strategic tool at the heart of Mecaware's industrial transformation, linking academic research and technology industrialisation. It will also facilitate the scale-up of existing and future technology components.
MecaLab

Project objectives

  • Create the "MecaLab" R&D laboratory at a new site in Vénissieux, including fitting out premises and moving equipment.
  • Equip the laboratory with state-of-the-art instruments and equipment for chemical and electrochemical analysis and research.
  • Recruit and develop R&D teams.
  • Accelerate R&D innovation in battery material recycling, contributing to the energy transition and the development of new industrial solutions.
  • Support for the scaling-up (from grams to kilograms) of battery recycling and manufacturing technologies.

Results
already achieved

  • Delivery of the Chemistry R&D laboratory for Mecaware at the Vénissieux technical center.
  • Relocation of equipment from the former Axel'One site to the Vénissieux technical center (USIN).
  • Recruiting and building laboratory teams, to support growth and continuous innovation.
  • Structuring and start-up of R&D activities at the new site, with a focus on strategic battery recycling projects.
